GMC stands for General Motors Corporations, or as it was formerly called, GMC Trucks, not to be confused with Georgia Military College or the Giant Molecular Cloud, which have nothing to do with trucks. GMC is an automotive company that started in Detroit, Michigan, in 1908 and formerly known as GMC Truck, is a brand name used on trucks, vans, and SUVs marketed in North America and the Middle East by General Motors.

Chevrolet Silverado was named Truck of the Year for 2007. Said commendation is given by Motor Trend magazine, one of the oldest automotive magazines still in circulation. With said award, Chevrolet expects more brisk sales in the months.
The automaker is now using said commendation in their advertising campaigns. It can be recalled that Motor Trend also named Toyota Camry Car of the Year. Said car belongs to the hottest-selling car in the United States. Moreover, Chevrolet expects that Silverado will also get the hype and performance of Camry with regards sales records.
Chevrolet Silverado is the counterpart of GMC Sierra. Sophisticated parts for a Chevy truck are incorporated to Silverado to produce a powerful pickup trucks. Silverado and Sierra are essentially identical. However, the redesigned version of Silverado is made tougher. In the past 2 years, the automaker has spent over $200 million on machinery and facilities to produce the pickups at its Fort Wayne, Indiana plant.
Silverado outshone 3 other GM contenders - Chevrolet Avalanche, Cadillac Escalade EXT and GMC Sierra. Another worthy truck for the title is the Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Avalanche is a 4-door, 6-seat sport utility car truck. Escalade is a full-size luxury SUV introduced by Cadillac for the model year 1999. The third generation Cadillac Escalade parts boast performance and reliability. Ford truck performance parts, on the other hand, made up Explorer Sport Trac. It is a midsize SUV with a pickup truck bed. These pickup trucks create tight competition in the segment they are in and for Silverado to emerged as Truck of the Year over other credible vehicles is a great privilege.
Motor Trend said that reliability and fuel efficiency are the factors that made Silverado win. “The Silverado impressed us most of all because it is a great reworking of an iconic American vehicle,” Motor Trend editor Angus MacKenzie said in a news release. “The Chevrolet pickup truck has been a part of the American automotive landscape for decades.”

Old Chevy trucks are easy to find all over North America and in fact all over the world. For instance, our own 1954 1/2 ton pickup came from Brazil… It is also easy to find anything you need for these trucks in the classic truck parts market.
The first model of Chevrolet truck was made in 1918, about two years after the company became part of General Motors.
At first they were mere automobiles with a bed in the back and didn’t carry much weight. Naturally they were extremely useful specially in the rural areas of the country, but they couldn’t be considered real “trucks”. By 1931 Chevrolet began to offer their pickups in two different wheelbases, with single or dual rear wheels. In the 1930’s Chevrolet built some beautiful trucks of which there are many wonderful restorations to be found.
Right after World War II, General Motors produced a series of pickup trucks for sale they called “Advanced Design Cab” trucks which had many improvements over previous models.
The “Advanced Design” series included the GMC pickup trucks which were virtually identical to their Chevy siblings, with only minor changes to the front grill and the dashboard. This series came out in 1947 and lasted for almost eight years. The last model of the series was produced in 1955. In that same year GM came out with a completely redesigned truck which is considered to be one of the most beautiful of the classic Chevrolets.
The Advanced Design may be the most popular series of old Chevrolet pickup trucks to be found today. The models didn’t change much from Chevrolet to GMC and from 1947 to 1955. Today most of the classic Chevy and GMC trucks in America are of the “Advanced Design” variety and it’s not hard to find an old Chevy for sale. Beautiful restorations of these old Chevy trucks are found everywhere.
Among the many places where you can find parts for old Chevy trucks one of the biggest and most respected is Jim Carter Classic Truck Parts, located in Independence, MO, just outside Kansas City. They have catalogs for Chevy and GMC pickups made between 1934 and 1972 and they also have a huge junkyard full of old Chevy trucks.

Toyota Motor Corp. has gone a long way and it is determined to make the most out of every segment in the American auto market. This time around, it attempts to conquer the full-size truck market.
As perceived by auto analysts, Ford trucks for sale, GMC trucks for sale and Dodge trucks for sale have already established loyalties among its customers. In fact, they account for more that 90 percent of the entire full-size truck sales in the United States. The Detroit brands have the upper hand in full-size trucks.”

The current economy is making a lot of people consider the benefits of hybrid vehicles, including hybrid pickup trucks. There was some news about plant closings and cut-backs in production which made poeple think that everyone is backing out of the trucks market. This segment as a result, has definitely been hit, but think twice before forming an opinion that anyone is giving up on trucks, because they still make up a large percentage of 4×4 pickup trucks sold and remain an important part of everybody’s lineup. But, fewer pickup truck buyers mean actual competition is as fierce as it’s ever been, and that’s good news for anyone who are looking for a new or a used 4×4 pickup truck.
There are two of them - the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and the GMC Sierra hybrids. These pickup trucks won’t be in the dealer showrooms until 2009 and although they both look real promising, who knows how available they’ll be at first or what they’ll cost. If you need something sooner, or you’re not interested in a hybrid, put GM’s new XFE trucks on your short list. The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado XFE and GMC Sierra XFE have promised fuel economy ratings of 15/21 mpg city/highway, versus 21/22 mpg city/highway for GM’s 2009 two-mode hybrids and 14/20 mpg city/highway for comparable non-XFE half-ton pickups. That’s really an improvement of roughly 5 to 7 percent over the non-XFE trucks.
GM has lowered the XFE’s aerodynamic drag to a claimed best-in-class .412, narrowly beating the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram’s .419 coefficient of drag. Helping the XFE achieve that slippery wind rating are a soft tonneau cover, an extended front chin spoiler and a 10-mm-lowered suspension and ride height. Low-rolling-resistance tires and lightweight 17-inch aluminum wheels help reduce friction between road surfaces and the truck. The XFE also uses an unusually tall 3.08 rear axle to hit its claimed higher fuel economy figures. To understand its importance, it helps to understand how rear axles are rated. Rear axles are assigned numbers that describe how many rotations the driveshaft must make to turn the rear axle (and rear wheels) once. A 3.08 rear axle turns the wheels once for every 3.08 driveshaft rotations.
To build the XFEs, General Motors started with Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks equipped with 5.3L aluminum block V8s. They also added a six-speed automatic transmission, a 3.08:1 rear axle ratio, aluminum wheels and low rolling resistance tires. A soft tonneau, extended lower front airdam and a lowered ride height gave the trucks better aerodynamics. The combination of changes improved fuel mileage, upping it by 1mpg for city and highway driving. That might not sound like much, but it all adds up. The XFEs are 2WD trucks (for now) and GM has already started building the Crew Cabs.
